Connecting Essay 5

In this image we can see that the photographer has decided to take a photo of  a forest with some newly fallen snow. This photo is great because it shows a very baron land with no green leafs anywhere. The image shows a contrast of the white of the snow and the dark colour of the dead baron trees.  There is also a contrast between the smooth snow and the sharp sticks on the trees which make the photo more interesting.

In this image we can see that there is a contrast between the little snow and the trees. As you can see there isn't as much snow as in the image above but that is only because the snow was still falling as I was taking the photo itself. This image is still a rather interesting photo because it shows part of Aokigahara which is the forest of the dead and where people go to commit suicide.

The connection between the two images is firstly they are both images of newly fallen snow in a forest. The second is that it shows a contrast between the white of the snow and the dark of the trees even though there is very little snow because it was still falling. Another link in the two images is that both of them were taken on Mt Fuji in Japan and also roughly in the same area as well because it would have been taken at the first check point on the mountain after the roads where closed.

Connecting Essay 4

Here we see the photographer has taken an image of Angkor Wat temple with its reflection at a near sunset in the small lake outside of the main temple building in-between the temple and the library. This image is rather interesting because it shows a rather interesting thing that nature is slowly taking back the temple. Another interesting point in this image is the we see the cloud has a rather interesting tint to it. It is a sort of yellow colour to it which is in the background of the image.

In this we can see that there is a reflection of the temple in the small lake outside. I have also edited it so that there is a slight yellow tint and the colours are a bit more vibrate. In this image we see that I have increased the vibrance in the image to increase the colour in the picture. This was because there was a lot of different natural colours around which made increasing the vibrance more interesting because it had a larger affect on the image itself.

The connection in these two photos is the reflection of the temple in the water and the editing of the surrounding colours to make them seem more vibrate. In both images we see that there is a yellow tint to both. In my image it is because I did it while I was editing the image and in the above images they managed to get the tint due to the sunset which made the image look rather interesting.

Connecting Essay 3

In this image we see that Mapplethorpe has got someone in a leather jacket to hold a knife and make them look very menacing and look like they are about to stab someone. For this image we see he has taken it on black background to make the image look even more darker and evil. The person in the image looks rather threatening because they are looking at the camera and look like they are about to assault the person taking the photo. This makes the image look rather interesting because they are look rather interesting. As we can see the above photo the person is leaning into the attack more and is holding the knife in his more dominant hand.
Here we see I have tried to replicate the image above, due to limitations I did not mange to get a knife as large or the same type of leather jacket. Apart from that I decided on my own to use a white background to also get some contrast in the image between the black leather jacket and the white background. My model doesn't look nearly as threatening as Mapplethorpe but I still think it works out quite well because they are both looking at the camera while holding a knife. The other difference in my image and Mapplethorpe is that in his he is holding the knife in his right hand and is leaning into the attack more then in my photo.

The connection between the two images are that they are both meant to look threatening and both have leather jackets and a knife. Both of the images were done in black and white to add to the affect of the image. They were both done against a background. Both of them are aiming the knife in front of them as if they were about to stab a person in front of them. Also in both images we see that the models are looking at the camera instead of their original target which makes it look like they are about to change their target to the person taking the photo.

Connecting Essay 2

Here is an image of the poppy installation at the Tower of London during November 2014. This photographer has taken his image with the point of focus is on a post card of one solder. The reason this makes a good image is because the image puts a real face to the 1,000,000s of people who died in the first world war. As represented by the 888,246 poppies placed around the tower.  The reason I choose this photo is because it shows both a personal and national mark of respect and remembrance.
In my image I decided to take a photo of the poppy waterfall with the Shard in the background. I didn't have a tripod with me so I couldn't get a photo of the poppies in the background in focus as much as the other image. Even though I couldn't get what i wanted I still managed to get an emotive image. I think this would benefit from retouching to remove the white tent poles. The poppies went right round the Tower of London. A 10 minute walk. The total number of deaths in WW1 was over 17 million.

The connection between the two photos are that one shows personal tragedy and one shows national tragedy. They also both show the poppy display that was outside of the Tower of London to show the number of people that died in the war. Both of the images show people paying their respect to the people who died. In the top photo we see someone who has decided to put a photo of a loved one in front go the display of poppy as and the other photo (my one) shows people paying their respects by displaying the poppies in the surrounding area to the Tower of London.

Connecting Essay 1

Here is an image of Tower Bridge in London at night. A you can see the bridge is raised up and the lights are on which gives the image a contrast of the light bridge and the building and the dark sky and water both above and below the light. The photographer has also taken the image from far away and at a lower angle. I think that must have used a high ISO. The image is rather interesting because the only light sources used were manmade light sources. In this image they must have taken it when there was still some blue sky so for them to make the sky darker they must have brought that exposure down. This makes the image look like it was taken more at night then anything else.
Here is my image. I decided that I would like to get an even stronger contrast of light and dark, so I decided to go later at night so the sky was even darker and the lights looked even stronger against the black sky. I also decided to take my photo closer to the bridge because I preferred the image this way. My image is un-retouched so a true representation of the night I visited. I think this works better then editing it because the image is rather interesting as it is and the only light source is the bridge so this would have been what someone would have seen when they looked at the bridge at the time I took the photo.

The connecting point for my image and the image I found was the contrast between the obviously enhanced image suitable for a photo library and my image straight out of the camera. The other connection is both of the images are of tower bridge and also taken at night only using the lights in the area of Tower Bridge. This makes both images rather interesting because both of them show what sort of lighting there would be at Tower Bridge if you visited it at night which looks rather interesting.
