Image Bank - Reflection

Here is a collective of reflection images that I have found on the internet, these were all taken by a photographer to show the reflection of objects in the world. Reflection is the throwing back by a body or surface of light, heat or sound without absorbing it. A light reflection can be of any type of object and is rather interesting.

Here we see that the photographer has seen an amazing photo. In this the clouds look like the depths of space and the setting sun creates a orange tint across the skyline. This object can be rotated 180 degrees but still look like a normal image. The reflective surface in this is a lake which reflects the shore in the distance and also the sun set as well.

In this image the photographer has a mirrored bridge where you can't tell where the supports for under the bridge end because they are reflected in the water. In this image it is hard to tell where the reflection is. Reflection works best on a smooth surface and makes it harder to tell which is the reflection and which it the real one.

Here we have an image of a woman doing yoga and the above image it looks like she is starting in the morning  but in the reflection image it looks like she is doing it at night.

In this image we have a lovely image of a snow and green mountain where the icebergs in the lake are perfectly reflect so they look like an even larger iceberg.

Here we see a reflective image of a mountain in water. The photographer has seen the mouton reflected in the crisp water and has decided that it would make a great photo.

Here we have what looks like a man walking on water. The photographer has sent the person into shallow water and has taken a picture of their mirrored self in the photo.

Definition - Reflection

Definition:

Web Definition:
The throwing back by a body or surface of light, heat, or sound without absorbing it.

My Definition:
Reflection is when and object mirrors what is happening in front of it.

Idea,
View,
Musing,
Study,
Brainwork,
Meditation,
Opinion,
Cerebration.
The great thing about the reflection in this photo is that the beach has a very clear layer of water over it so you can still walk normally though it, but because the water is clear it can easy reflect the cloudy sky which then makes it look like the clouds are on the beach floor. I also like how there is little blue sky or black where the image reflects because it creates a circular affect on the view that the sky loops back round into the floor.

This photograph demonstrates the reflectivenes of water . As we can see the water reflects the flower almost perfectly but the surrounding items in the photo are slightly distorted. This is because those objects are much further away and because there is a ripple in the water the object seems distorted. The reason the flower is not distorted as much as the background object is for two reasons the first being that the lotus is closer to its own reflection and also the camera is more focused on the lotus then the background image.

One thing that can be achieved with reflection in an image is completion, this is where you have an object that looks like it is half built, but on a reflective surface looks like it is complete. In this image there is what looks like half of a heart but when the photo is taken to include a reflective surface the large structure looks like a fully complete heart.

Reflection are not always perfect replications of an image, some reflective surfaces can bend and twist to form a distorted image that can make a good photo. Here in this photo we see that the large objects bends the Chicago skyline to fit the shape of the object, any reflective surface that distort like this always matches the  shape of the object.

Work Diary - Reflection

Evaluation:

Reflection is created by the throwing back of light off a polished surface. The thing I liked about this project was going round Harlow town, finding interesting reflective surfaces and also trying to get images that were half reflected and half see through, so you can see what was on the other side of the reflective surface.

In this image I took a photo that reflected all the shoppers in a busy mall. I think it does need brightening a little but does get over the reflected message.  Also you can start to see through the glass into the shop but the angle meant that its was not that interesting. I think I could do better if I was to go out again.
I like this shot (apart from the drain) I love the reflection of the clouds that totally fill the image then on top of that my reflection and the fact that then I have my shoes. If I did not have the drain or the curb stones but just the reflection and my shoe in the image it would be a great shot.

Progression:

If I were to continue this then I would like to do a lot more shots using water.  I think that they work so well and while not easy to do as you need to be patient and wait for just the right moment the effects can be stunning. The lighting and the subject need to be interesting in order for the images to work as in the image below

This is already a great image without the reflection in the water. I am not sure whether it is genuine as it appears to be too good. Perfect lighting, perfect sunset, perfectly still water and over a large area as well. I think this reflection was done in Photoshop.

Again the image it already really strong without the reflection but I like the way the sun appears as a complete circle. Like it was high in the sky.  The composition in setting the sun off to one side also works really well.
